Crisis Peer Supporter

Coleman Health Services is a nationally recognized not-for-profit provider of behavioral health and rehabilitation programs to foster recovery, build independence, and change destinies for individuals, families, and businesses in our community. We are seeking a Crisis Peer Supporter to provide community-based peer support services to individuals experiencing behavioral health challenges, emotional distress, substance use concerns, or crisis-related needs. Using lived experience, empathy, and recovery-oriented practices, the Crisis Peer Supporter will assist individuals in navigating behavioral health systems, accessing community resources, and building connections to ongoing care and supports.

This position works collaboratively with law enforcement, Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) partners, behavioral health providers, hospitals, and community organizations to support individuals following behavioral health-related crisis responses.

Job Duties of Crisis Peer Supporter include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide community-based peer support services to individuals impacted by mental health, substance use, or behavioral health crises.
  • Partner with law enforcement and Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) responders during behavioral health-related calls as appropriate and within scope of the role.
  • Assist with de-escalation, emotional support, and engagement during or following crisis situations.
  • Conduct outreach and follow-up contacts with individuals who have received Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) response services to encourage connection to ongoing supports and treatment.
  • Participate in community education, awareness events, and outreach initiatives related to mental health, substance use, crisis response, and recovery support.

Qualifications of the Crisis Peer Supporter:

  • Certified peer support specialist through the Ohio Department of Mental Health
  • Have lived experience as a parent or caregiver of a child who has been involved with behavioral healthcare services
  • Have and maintain an excellent driving record
  • Have high school diploma or equivalent
